A Fantastic Way to End the Week

The students have been busy scientists lately!  In ISM, they have been learning all about the states of matter.  WE have been including that knowledge (atoms, molecules, solids, liquids, gases) in the classroom as well.  Today we made butter!  The students helped transform the liquid (heavy whipping cream) into a solid (butter)!  It was creamy, sweet, and delicious!

We also explored the force of magnets, gravity, and weight.  And talked a little about density!

I can't wait to see what they grow up to be!  We definitely have some engineers, scientists, and nutritionists in our future.

They did really well overall on their tough spelling words, grammar check up, a quick magnetism quiz, and the math assessment today.  You can watch for those things to come home next week, we do have a few absent that will need to take it still.

Next Friday, our PTO will be sponsoring a Winter Wonderland dance.  Our gym will become a dance floor!
February 8, will be bingo night.

Our class are so close to earning a class celebration!  I think they have three or four more rewards to peel off then they can vote on a celebration day for their second marking period of team work!  It has been really nice not to have to use our clip chart and Week at a Glance this time around.

The last math packet (week 13) went home this week.  It is due next Wednesday.  You will soon be seeing a new weekly homework starting for the third marking period and going through the end of the year.  If you see that your child is still struggling with skip counting and basic math facts (memorizing them or still counting with fingers), perhaps you can pick up some flash cards and practice the rote, old fashioned, way.  Multiplication and division will be very hard if they do not master their basic addition and subtraction facts.

Have a wonderful weekend!
