We also have played a few name games and we will continue those next week for sure to be sure everyone is learning each other's names. And mine!
I will start posting photos next week once I have all the forms back regarding permission to use them on this site. Thank you to those who have complete their One Million Words about your child homework. You've given me lots of wonderful information.
We had our first fire drill today. They were amazing! I even rewarded them with their first Excellence Dollar! This is part of our classroom rewards system. I expect every child to come to school ready to learn. When they show kindness and work hard, they are meeting that expectation. At the end of each day, they will get paid for their effort. At the end of each week (starting next week), you will see their Week At A Glance come home. They need to show it to you, you sign it, and they return in on Monday. This is building responsibility for each child.
We read several books this week and have started to build stamina! We need practice to get into routines of learning. So we build stamina to read quietly for up to twenty minutes. So far, they are at 9 minutes of staying in one place and reading the whole time to themselves. Of course, reading can be looking at the pictures and reading the words. They are up to 12 minutes of writing. The goal for all stations will be to have stamina to last for 20-25 minutes and be able to focus on the task given. I will always bank in some transition time to get those wiggles and jiggles out.
We have enjoyed this lovely weather so far. The class has gone out to recess three times. That will slowly go to twice daily once we build our stamina back to routines of the classroom.
I hope you enjoy your weekend. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need anything.
