A Terrific Tuesday

The students our class worked hard and were kind today.  I introduced a behavior chart.  Green means they are ready to learn.  Yellow is needing some reminders.  And Red tells that the child had a difficult time staying on task.  I will do my best to always give oral reminders before moving to yellow.  After all, we all need reminders once in a while!  Just because a child moves to yellow or even red during one activity, doesn't mean they are not ready to learn again for the next transition.  Children move clips up and down all day.  This is a physical reminder that their behavior is disrupting others from working hard.  If, at the end of the day, they end on red, they will not get their Excellence Dollar for the day.  If a child ends on red, that usually means they were on red for more than one activity throughout the day.  I will always try my best to write what the activities were on their weekly chart.  If a child ends their day on yellow, this too is usually because they were there more than once throughout the day.  They will get 50 cents for their daily allowance.  Those who end on green may have had to move throughout the day, but had many chances to be ready to learn again.  They did get their dollar allowance.  You will see this weekly chart come home every Friday.  Please sign it and return it on Monday.

Today, we enjoyed learning a little more about each student in our class.  We shared about pets after reading a story about two girls and a pet bird.  Using our Koosh ball to practice kindness and listening skills, we each had a turn to tell about pets.  This did remind some children, sadly, of pets that they once had and have passed away.  We do cherish our memories of well loved pets.  Lastly, from that lesson, we did a little math.  Talking about greater than and less than.

Some children will have homework tonight.  It is a math paper labeled homework.  Both sides of this paper needs to be done and returned.  I did give twenty five minutes of class time to give children the opportunity to remember what we learned last week.

We had some friend in the class lose some teeth last night and we had some readers after Work on Writing.

Enjoy the evening with all the warmth and sunshine!
