Warmer days are coming!  It was so nice today to see the sun shining and just light jackets on.  We had gym class outside to start the day.  Enjoyed a morning recess to celebrate Zach's birthday, and of course our lunch and afternoon breaks.

Our spelling words this week are tough.  Be sure to really emphasize the two different sounds that the vowels make.  These may not follow traditional spelling rules like our sight words.  I'm sure they will do just fine, but a little extra support might be needed.

I think they are ready to be tested on geometry.  I will do some reviewing tomorrow and Wednesday.  If they look like they have a good handle on the vocabulary, I will plan to test them on Thursday.  Our next unit of math will be fractions.  It's always good practice to go over the double and triple digit regrouping in addition and subtraction.  This is one area they will start with in third grade.

Enjoy the night!

We had a very enjoyable and productive day in room 23!  I know we had several friends enjoying the day with their parents which was very special for them.

Take a look at our photos below to see how we made three dimensional shapes.

Tomorrow is PJ day for Morgan.  This is a student council school-wide event.  All students are able to wear their pajamas to school tomorrow.

We will have our spelling test tomorrow and a grammar check up.  The students will continue with cursive and work with equal parts using their knowledge about rows and columns.

Enjoy the lovely weather while we have it!

Mid-Week Review

Happy Wednesday!  Today we celebrated Sidra's birthday.  Your child should be coming home with a small packaged candy from her.

We worked so hard this week with brainstorming, building details, doing some editing, and writing two paragraphs!  I'm really excited for them to share their writing on Friday.  I know they were feeling very proud of the hard work they put in.

This afternoon, we had lots of fun and hands on time with geometry.  Take a look at our photos below.

Tomorrow is take your child to work day.  Please, if you know you will be taking them out of school for the day, send me an email so that we can mark them as an excused absence.  Plus, it will save our wonderful office staff several phone calls in the morning!

Our PTO does amazing things for our school.  Not only raising money to enjoy taking a bus to a field trip, but they help support assemblies, field day, technology needs/updates, roller skating parties, birthday books, and much more!  If you enjoyed any of the restaurant events, Daddy/Daughter or Mother/Son event, our fall festival, etc.  then all those are made possible because of the volunteers of our Parent Group at Morgan!  If we do not have a board, we cannot continue these amazing things.  At this time, they are seeking parents to be involved, take on a leadership role, and keep these great events and activities alive for the goodness of all students at Morgan.  The next and finally meeting for the year is May 22.  If you think you can find just a little time to be a part of this organization, please reach out to me or someone on the board and express your interest.  Thank you so much!

Please take note that our concert was changed.  I hope this is going to still fit in your busy spring schedule.  The children will enjoy the evening along with the art show and book fair.  A yellow note is in their folder today.

PTO meeting tomorrow night and I think they still need parents willing to be on the board.  Our school is so amazing because of our parents and the work you all do for our students.  Thank you!

We are working with geometry  and all the vocabulary.  This will lead us into fractions and multiplication.

Enjoy the sunshine!

Hello Families,

I hope this update finds you enjoying some sunshine, finally!  The students enjoyed being outside this week as we had the crazy mix of weather around here.

If you are looking for something to do tonight, Wiley Elementary (our Pen Pals school) is hosting their school carnival.  It is all held indoors at Utica High School.  There will be games, a bounce house, food, prizes, raffles, and a photo booth.  I'm letting you know about this event, because my daughter is in sixth grade and we will be there.  It's always fun to see each other outside of school and to help a worthy cause!

We are working with vocabulary for geometry.  Next week, will make some shapes to help those words become more realistic for the children.  Data and graphing will continue as well.  We have fractions and introducing multiplication left to do in second grade.  If ever you are wondering what to do with your child, practice larger numbers with regrouping addition and subtraction.  You can also practice fractions, repeated addition (skip counting facts), telling time, and using money.

The first week of write and tell, phase three went well.  Most of the children even wrote two paragraphs!  Way to go!!!!

They are loving cursive!  We started with some lowercase letters this week that all follow a ROCK and ROUND style.  More letters to come next week.
