I enjoyed my lunch dates today!  Thanks for using a coupon with me.

Some students may have some math homework today.  Time was given in class to work on three digit addition and subtraction today.  We had three adults helping in the room.  If your child has the homework, it was either too challenging and they need some one on one time with you.  OR they were off task and distracted.  Either way, if you could look over the math that came home today, we all would appreciate it.  Thank you!

I am so pleased with the reading progress with the kids.  Fluency and comprehension are coming along nicely!  Keep reading at home on a regular basis.  Especially during the summer months.  It will be imperative to keep these skills for the demands of third grade.

Our music concert is quickly approaching.  Hopefully you are hearing some of the songs at home.  They sure sound cute here in school.  Thank you so much for the parents who donated materials and time for our kiddos.

We are winding down on learning all the cursive letters.  Even though there is not a place on the second grade report card for cursive, I feel it is a skill that children should know and practice.  I will allow some spelling words to be practiced in cursive so that the children have time to practice, practice, and practice some more.

Next Monday, May 6 is wear your class shirt to school.  Plus we have our field trip on Thursday next week where they can wear the shirt again.  Be sure to pack a lunch in a disposable bag that day.

Have a wonderful night.

Hello Families,

Our week went by quickly.  I was so pleased to hear about the wonderful experiences students had while visiting at their parent's workplace.  When I stopped in at Costco last night, there were several children in working with their parents as well.  Even after school hours.

For those who attended class, we made the most for our small class size.  The morning they worked on their robots in media center.  Then returned to the class for some possessive pronoun work, reading, and contraction work.  The afternoon we were invited to join Mrs. Smith's class during her gym time.  BONUS GYM!  We enjoyed Mrs. Crum and her stations she set up.  Then we finished our time together researching how paper airplanes work.  We built some planes and then flew them.  Once they landed, the students did some measuring and charted the data collected.

Next week we will dig a little deeper into why we should take care of the Earth.  This past Monday, each student brought home some homework and were asked to do something environmentally kind each day this week.  Those sheets need to be returned on Monday.  Thanks for the support.

Enjoy the weekend!

Mid-Week Already!

Where has this week gone?  April is flying by.

Tomorrow is Take Your Child To Work Day.  If you know you will be enjoying the time with your child, please send me an email.  Thank you.

We have been issuing some tickets in the classroom.  This is a fourth quarter behavior plan.  The children continue to get paid Excellence Dollars to buy items from the treasure box, coupons, and/or stuffed animals.  However, if they violate some rules, they must pay the ticket price.  There are occasional forgetful moments that a ticket may be issued, but most likely not repeated.  FAILURE LEADS TO SUCCESS!  Just like in the real world, if I get a ticket for being on my phone, I'm sure I will be more careful not to use my phone while driving.  However, I am seeing some repeat offenders and we've only been doing this for one week.  I'm thinking I may have to hold a conference or two with some of these students and invite in a parent to help with the support of learning from our mistakes.  Perhaps a conversation at home might be just what they need.

On a positive note, the class can earn surprise rewards for no violations given out!

Take a peek at our students who lost a tooth this week and who I ate lunch with!
Enjoy the night!

We enjoyed our ice cream celebration!  I'm sorry I didn't snap photos to share.  By the time I was done scooping the ice cream, most of the class had eaten their reward.  But, nonetheless, they enjoy it!

CONGRATULATIONS:

3 Scoops + 3 Toppings + whipped cream and a cherry on top = Ellie, Jennifer, Ellyana, Sebastian

3 Scoops + 2 Toppings = Shane, Chloe, Jenavive

2 Scoops + 2 Toppings = Jenna, Mitchell

2 Scoops + 1 Topping = Michael, Chanhee, Avery, Giorgio, Kaitlyn, Ari

2 Scoops = Grace S., Roman, Grace R., Aubrey, Amjad, Abigair, Andrew, Kourtney C.

1 Scoop = Aleks, Preston, Malaj, Kourtney K.

Every two tests passed earned them a reward!  Well done.  Keep practicing all your math facts, even multiplication for third grade.

If you are observing this Holy Week, may you have a wonderful Easter.

Enjoy the weekend.

How beautiful Grace and Jenna look to welcome our springtime weather!

I am so happy with how quickly the children are understanding and enjoying data and graphing.  I will do some more fun with them in the next few days then do a quick assessment.  We will then introduce three digit addition and subtraction with regrouping.  Along with looking at arrays, area, fractions, and multiplication.  There is still a lot to gain in mathematics for the remainder of second grade.

Tomorrow will be student council  egg sales.

Our students will have a spelling test, and since our week was shortened by one day, I will definitely give some clues along the way.  In addition to that, we will celebrate the timed math facts with an ice cream party.

Remember, there will be no school Friday.
