Dear Families,
Please take a moment and peek in your child's backpack.  Right at the end of the day, one of our friends showed me a special treasure from his parents' trip to Mexico.  It was a cactus on a keychain.  Like a squishy toy.  I saw it on his backpack.  Then we went outside for recess.  I was out with the students.  Several children did come in to use the bathroom, which is completely normal.  However, today, upon our return, I was so sad to see that someone took it off his bag.  If you do see it, please return it.  Thank you.

Today we said good-bye to Miss. Kayla.  She will be graduating from Ike and off to college.  She has been a wonderful helper in our class.  In honor of her farewell, we played some cooperating games this afternoon.  I think everyone enjoyed it.

We also enjoyed our day with having everyone in class!  Since we did, I took advantage of taking some group pictures.  Remember, you are welcome to pull pictures off our class website for your personal use.

Tomorrow is field day.  Students need to come prepared to be outside for two hours in the morning.  Our class will start the fun at 9:00 and return to the room at 11:00.  I do not know if there is a snack break or not.  So please be sure your child has a good breakfast.  Also, send them with a water bottle that is labeled with their name and perhaps our room number.  If disrespectful, unsportsmanlike conduct occurs, that child will be sitting out.  This is meant to be a day of physical fitness and fun, not tears.

If you are volunteering, please arrive at the school and check in at the office before 8:45.  They want to set up with parent help and be started right at 9:00.  Thank you for all you do!

Enjoy the warm, breezy evening!

Please click on each picture for some additional comments.  Also, check out the photos tab, we have all the biography posters there.  Well done and what fun to share!  Have a great night.

PS:  Don't forget to send your child in tennis shoes for Friday, and send a water bottle labeled clearly with their name.  No cups will be provided at the water station, but the students can refill their bottles all morning as needed.  If you are volunteering, please be sure to check in at the office.

Thursday and Sunny!

Thank you for dressing your children in layers!  It was slightly cool this morning, so several sweaters, jackets, and sweatshirts came in with the kids.  As the sun continued to shine, there were lots of short sleeves happening.  Just remember, as it gets warmer outside, the air-conditioning in our classroom seems to have a mind of its own and gets colder.  A sweater or sweatshirt is a good idea when they feel cold in our classroom.

The biography posters are so cute!  I will take pictures tomorrow before they present.  I'm very proud of all the hard work they put into this project.

TOMORROW is a school wide spirit day:  BEACH DAY!  Wear your sun hats and sunglasses!  No swimsuits please.  Flip flops will be fine in the classroom, but be sure to pack an extra set of shoes for recess.  Wood chips do not feel good in flip flops.

Next Thursday is our last day with Miss. Kayla.  I know she loves Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, nail polish, and homemade cards!  We will surprise her next week with a little congratulations and thank you celebration to wish her well for graduation and college.

We will have spelling words again next week.  Two weeks of spelling and Write and Tells, then the last full week of school will be all about summer fun!

Have a wonderful and safe weekend, see you Tuesday!

A Lovely Spring Day

Oh what a lovely day!  The sun was shining, the children were helpful and hard working today.

I know when I am out of the classroom, it can be challenging to make the adjustment.  I try not to announce when I am going to be gone to avoid any unnecessary anxiety.  However, when I am out of the classroom, the expectation is the same for any adult in our classroom.  Yesterday, the majority of the children did show our guest teacher the same kindness and respect as they do every day!  Thank you for instilling that in your child.

If you can take a few moments this week and weekend to go through your child's room and books at home, I know myself and Mr. D. would appreciate that.  I have noticed that on occasion, students borrow books from the classroom library to read at home.  Please look inside your books and if it says my name, please return it so next year, the children in this classroom can enjoy the books too.  If you are going through books and you realize that it is a library book, please return it.

The following list of initials are books that are overdue!  I couldn't believe how long the list was from our classroom.  If your child got a note home today, that means that book as been missing and you know owe the library money to replace it.  Please check bags for a letter.

The following children have overdue books:

S.A.      A.B       B.F.      G.K.     H.K.     M.M.     O.M.      J.N.       G.R.       N.S.     R.S.      D.S.     M.T.
S.V.     M.V.

That is more than half our class with overdue books.

Another amazing learning day in room 23!  The students did a fantastic job writing their biography reports.  They stayed focussed and attentive to the work at hand.  Next week, they get to be creative!

Today, we enjoyed a BMX Bike Assembly.  It was awesome!

Enjoy the weekend!
