Once we enjoyed a fashion show of funny hairdos, we moved right into animals that slime!
Our morning was filled with science. We started with a short video to get us thinking about the main topic of our morning and pulled some details from the video to support that. Then we moved on to a strategy of bold print, vocabulary. First, we viewed some vocabulary cards that showed a picture to support the words for understanding. Then, we looked in our Scholastic News to find the bold print words from the expository text that we felt was a clue to build comprehension from the article. Once we finished building some prior knowledge and vocabulary, we moved right in on the reading portion of the lesson. Animals and why they slime! Be sure to reread it with your child and have them tell you all about it. Finally, we concluded our morning with some slime investigations. The children were in groups and we had recorders to write down what they were observing, smelling, and touching. There were seven slimy things to explore. Upon completion of the exploration, the children were asked to complete a conclusion sheet and share it about what they learned. It was so much fun!
Tomorrow is the nature center clean up. If you are free in the morning, please do come to the school and help do some yard work in the nature park behind our school.
Monday, we take our NWEA reading/language arts. I know it will have some challenging vocabulary on it for the students. I have tried to give practice lessons, review work, and whole group instruction directly working for success on this upcoming assessment. Please be sure they get some rest and have a good breakfast. Thank you!
By Wednesday, all structure projects need to be turned in. I've seen a couple come in early and they look fantastic!
Thursday is our field day. Children need to have comfortable clothes and running shoes for the events. If you'd like to pack something for them to change into after, you are welcome to have it in their backpacks.
Enjoy the beautiful evening and weekend ahead.
