Friday News

Hello families and happy Friday.  We had a fun day with bat writing, poems, math and even a guided highlight comprehension lesson.  The students did very well with learning.

November 10th will be picture re-take day.  If your child was absent or needs to have a retake, please mark your calendar.

Next Wednesday, in ISM, the children will be taking a report card science quiz.  All marking period they have been working on learning about different types of animals.  You will see their very full science notebook come home today.  Please take some time to go over it in the next few days with your child.  All notes were done in ISM together.

Plan for Tuesday to send a regular snack with your child.  With food allergies in our class, this is the safest way to have our daily snacks.  There will not be any additional treats that morning.  However, if your child would like to pass something out to their friends, please remember to include EVERYONE!  We have 26 students.  All items shared will be placed in a goody bag and sent home.  We hope you can join us in the gym for our annual parade.  There will not be volunteers in the classroom.  We will be switching between all three second grade rooms for a morning of games, crafts, and fun!

Be sure to look at our new Flat Stanley friends that arrived today.

Enjoy the weekend!

It was an amazing day in room 23!  Our morning was busy about bats and we had a guest join us.  Mrs. S. was here to observe Miss. Hageman run our morning literacy stations.  The children enjoyed writing about bats, this could have been a list of facts, a narrative non-fiction, or a fictional story.  It was meant to be fun and many even had time to draw a picture to go along with their writing.  They also listened to Stellaluna and then charted facts and fiction from the authors point of view.  Lastly, they worked on their bat vocabulary skills.  These were the paper/interactive stations today.  Of course, they spent time with eSpark and Raz-Kids.

This afternoon, we kicked off the lunch period with our first LUNCH BUNCH BOOK CLUB!  It was fun to share that time together and talk over the book.  A new book was selected that is highlighted in the book order coming home today.

We had other great writers today share from their work on writing notebooks.  Next, with the help of Miss. Kayla and Miss. Hagman, the students took their place value test to show their understanding of numbers up to 1,000.  I will be anxious to check them tonight because my quick glances looked fantastic!

We rounded out the afternoon with art, a read aloud, and recess.

Tomorrow is bagel day!  Enjoy the night.

Hello Families! While I was called to a meeting today, your children enjoyed some bat facts! Miss. Hageman has planned a three day short unit for this week building up to a well anticipated Halloween week next week!

Tomorrow we will have our chapter 2 math test. I'm sure the children will find success after how well they have been doing with larger number place value skills.

Enjoy this beautiful fall evening!

Hello Families!  Today was an amazing day of hard work.  They completed our first Unit Theme Test.  You will see that coming home.  We did do this together.  You will see that I did not have them filling the writing parts.  We discussed them in class for this unit.  I will continue to model this big theme test for unit 2.  That will be in six weeks.  Then for unit 3, we will model it on line.  Finally, for units 4-6, they will be asked to complete these theme tests alone and on the computer.  I will allow a couple of days for each theme test, they are crazy long!

Our next unit will start next week.  Watch for spelling words again on Monday.

This week Thursday will be our LUNCH BUNCH BOOK CLUB!  Please have your child bring their book from home (already read).  We will enjoy talking about it.

Look for your child's pictures to come home today.  We will have a picture retake day if you missed it or need it.  As soon as I know the date, I will share it with you.

Tonight is a PTO meeting.  Friday night is the Bingo night.  This event is SOLD OUT!  If you pre-paid, you are all set.  Thanks for such a wonderful turn out.

AMAZING Flat Stanley projects!  Today we had four return to school.  Two included awesome photos!  One included some M&Ms from the Nevada factory!  So fun.  Check out the pictures in the photo album.

Have a wonderful night!

First, thank you so much for the wonderful birthday wishes!  I was feeling the love from your children.

We have had two Flat Stanley's come back to us this week!  So exciting.  Take a look at the Photo Albums and find the button for this project.  As they come back, I will continue to add them to the tab.

There is a PTO meeting tomorrow night here at the school.  If you are available to join the meeting, please do!  All are welcome.  There is also our Annual Halloween Bingo event this Friday night.  The kids can wear their costumes and enjoy playing bingo!

All week, your child has an opportunity at lunch to purchase tickets for the pumpkin raffle.  See how cute they all are!
