We enjoyed our time together today in room 14.  Our morning was all about giving back to others.  This afternoon was about the new friends we have made in our classroom.

Thank you so much for the generous gifts and thoughtful notes and cards.  I hope you all know how much your children mean to me.  I enjoy being their teacher and fostering their academic and social growth.

I wish you all the best for the holiday break and into the New Year!

Sincerely Yours,
Mrs. Fromm

Oh what fun it is to be in room 14!  Today we wrote a complete paragraph about what it would be like to be a gingerbread cookie!  The children had my model to look at for some ideas and to be sure they remembered to indent the start of their paragraph.  I was looking for capital letters, punctuation, and complete sentences in an order that made sense and a good use of organization.  They turned out really well!

This afternoon, we continued the fun with our gingerbread man trying to cross the river without the help of the fox!  Today, the children were put into teams of three or four.  They needed to come up with a design using a limited amount of supplies.  Once they started working, they could trade supplies with me for other materials.  They were given about thirty minutes to build a bridge.  Each team needed to fill their pan with water and then build their bridge.  With five minutes remaining, we tested each bridge.  This was a very clever group, not one bridge tipped over, fell into the river, or just wasn't strong enough to hold the gingerbread man.  Well done to our future engineers!

Take a look at our photos below from today's bridge work.

Tomorrow is our holiday celebration where the students will be moving between the first and second grade classrooms to enjoy the fun of crafting.  Thank you for the donation to help cover the costs of the crafts and extra fun we've been doing this week.  Those who have volunteered, we will see you around 8:35 for instructions.

Have a great evening!

Terrific Tuesday

It was a terrific day in room 14.  The children were all here and seemed to be pretty healthy!

Another Flat Stanley returned after a visit to Northville, Michigan.  We found out that it is a historical town.

We worked with a buddy class, fourth grade, Mrs. Boes' class for the Key of Ownership.  This is all about being honest with our words and actions.  Take ownership even if things don't go our way.

After looking at how the states of matter can change based on the environment, we did a science experiment with a gingerbread man this afternoon.  The children observed their cookie, then made a prediction (hypothesis) about what it would look like if it gets wet.  Then of course we needed to set it in water and see if our predictions were correct.  They had fun with this!

I hope you have a great evening!

Monday, Fun Day!

It's been a fun day in room 14.  We looked at the history of gingerbread today.  The children had a chance to taste molasses which is a sweetener for the gingerbread.  We did some quick facts for fluency in math, and worked on our usual stations.  We did include some states of matter today.

Our genre this week is folktales.  I will primarily be spending time with The Gingerbread Boy story and ones similar.  We will do some science along the way with the understanding of states of matter.

This Friday is a school wide Ugly Sweater Day.  I have told the children that the sweaters can be cute, festive, and colorful too!

Have a wonderful night!
