Hello Room 23! Happy Constitution Day! Today we learned a little about why we developed the Constitution. You will see a short paper come home about being a good citizen in the classroom. If you want your child to cut and glue, they can. Our class time was used with discussion and thus, we only did check marks here.
Thank you to those students who wore RED, WHITE, and BLUE or even a little mix of any of those patriotic colors today! It is fun to show class spirit on special occasion days.
We introduced our spelling words today. In class we call it Word Study. That's because we are looking for patterns in words to help us remember how to become a better speller, reader, and writer. In their folder today, you will see a list to keep at home. On the back side of that is our weekly concepts we will be focussing on here. Each Friday, they will have a spelling test and a grammar check up (quiz).
We had some friends share their Work on Writing pieces today. I'm so proud of them for being willing to share with the class and for their own style of writing to shine through.
Math, we started with remembering what makes numbers odd and even. We are looking at ten frames to help us partner numbers and create equations. Our focus is to quickly recognize numbers that have a sum using double or double plus one. You can see the math worksheet that came home today to see how this is introduced. As always, if you have any questions, please ask your child or ask me!
Enjoy the evening and please continue to dress your child in layers. Mornings are cool and by the afternoon recess, it is warm. Also, I cannot stress enough how important it is to LABEL EVERYTHING!
