Friday News

It is hard to believe that it is Friday already.  The students are falling into good listening practices here in the classroom.  They show kindness and are willing to work hard!

Please note that you will see their Week at a Glance in their folder today.  It is on the RETURN TO SCHOOL side.  Please sign it and return it on Monday.  They will get Excellence Dollars!  (Which they love)

Next week we start spelling.  The words will be posted here on Friday but your children will get them on Monday.  We will practice them in school each day for about twenty minutes.  A formal spelling test will be given on Friday.  Along with spelling tests, they will also have a grammar check up.  This will be a little quiz on any grammar skills practiced in the classroom throughout the week.  I will model and coach the students through these first few weeks to get used to the expectations.

MONDAY is National Constitution Day.  Please have your child wear any Red, White, and/or Blue.

Next FRIDAY, September 22, will be our Fall Festival.  I hope to see you here for some family fun.  The event will be held from 5:30-7:30pm.

As for today, Miss. Hageman finished the fun with Fables by comparing The Lion and The Mouse with The Tortoise and The Hare.  As a class she modeled comprehension skills using a venn diagram.  The students were engaged and excited to see how the two short stories were alike and different.  Then, they had an opportunity to recall character traits about one of the characters.  They could choose one and give six details.  You should see that in their folder tonight.

We are working on recognizing odd and even numbers.  Finding odd and even in addition sentences/equations.  A few papers are coming home today.  Be sure to ask them to show you their ten frames and equations.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend of soccer, bowling, family time, and other activities.  This is a delightful group of children who are learning to work well together!
