First, I have to say sorry!  I tried all evening yesterday to update the site and it kept showing up as an error.

I wanted the students to bring in flashlights for some "Flashlight Reading" fun and shadow exploration.  Many did remember the verbal reminder so I'm so happy that we could do a little of this today.  But, since the site was going crazy, I'm hoping you will allow your child to bring their flashlights back on Monday!  We will do a few other things then.  Thanks!

Our class could use some glue sticks and kleenex if you are out and about and wouldn't mind picking up some for our class.  WE all would greatly appreciate it!

We completed the reading part of NWEA this week.  The class showed growth and I'm very proud of them.  Keep up the great reading!  Next week, Tuesday, we take the math assessment.

Speaking of assessments, our second card marking is coming to an end next week.  I will be doing some mid-year math assessments, writing assessments, and sharing with the students about overall behavior and work habits.  This is a very nice group of children.  We have very little challenges, and those that we do have are often quickly resolved.

Today was bagel day.  Thanks for preordering for this special treat throughout the year.

Next Thursday and Friday are half days.  Dismissal will be at 11:30.  Friday will be crazy hair/crazy hat day for the entire school.  Our class will probably have a pajama reward day on Thursday!  We have been working all marking period as a team to earn a class reward.  It takes several reminders to keep on task, but when compliments come our way, the reward is fun!  I'll keep you posted and the kids if we have the pj day next Thursday.  Otherwise, it might spill into the follow week.

Valentine's Day is a sweet celebration for second graders.  We celebrate our friendships with one another on February 14th.  It falls on a Thursday this year.  We will plan to pass out valentine cards that you can prepare at home.  The students can decorate a mailbox to receive their valentine's in.  You can make this from a cereal box, shoe box, extra large envelope (like a mailing envelope), a lunch back, or be even more creative!  You can decorate is really fancy or simply.  That is up to you and your child.  Please have the boxes sent to school on Wednesday, February 13.  I do not have room to store them any sooner than the day before.  I will continue to send reminders about this on our website.

Have a great weekend!
