The day was filled with animal fun! They explored the computer on BrainPopJr and looked at a variety of animals. They worked as a team to build a 100 piece puzzle of a momma tiger and her cub. Some students did some wonderful writing today and many completed a retelling about the life cycle of a butterfly.
You will see a math sheet coming home with a star sticker on it. We modeled that this week. I wanted to be sure the students were clear on the directions because next week, they will do it by themselves. A couple of days in class were devoted to this and so they will get a couple of days in class to complete it next week. Some areas we have not taught yet, so I will be available to help them for sure! We are currently looking at addition strategies for double digit numbers. Next week we will do three numbers of double digits in addition.
The spelling words will become more challenging. Please remember, to help your child learn the words is not just a memorization skill but, looking for the reasons of why. Like this week we had consonant digraphs. That means when they see "ch" together you do not say the "c" sound then the "h" sound. No, when you see them next to each other they make a new sound all their own. Teaching spelling with strategies of why we spell the way we do, following some spelling rules, will benefit them in years to come. Of course, we will always have "RULE BREAKERS" in our english language. I will be talking more on rule breakers in January!
Have a great weekend!
