It was a great start to our day with all students attending. Then, as our day progressed, we had some go home. Keep your eyes open for signs of the stomach flu, bad runny nose, and extra coughing. If there is a fever with the cough and runny nose, it is probably the flu virus. If there is not a fever, then its most likely a cold. If you child is uncomfortable, it is hard to concentrate. Missing one day to get well rested and hydrated is always a good idea.
We will be starting to do some speed math here at school. After lunch, we will take a speed math test. This is to prepare them on fluency of addition and subtraction. We will start with number bonds to be sure we understand fact families. Then we will move through lots of addition and subtraction facts. Eventually, some students will be doing multiplication, which is just fast addition with skip counting. You can practice at home by setting a timer for one minute, three minutes, five minutes, etc. and give them a variety of math problems to solve. As we master our math facts, we will be building an ice cream sundae. At the end of the speed math challenge, I will provide a party for the class. Thanks for the support.
This afternoon we practiced our second emergency lockdown drill. Today, I discussed with the students about a safe escape route if necessary. We also talked about diversion tactics like blocking the door, throwing water bottles to distract, and of course staying quiet. I'm so PROUD of your children, they did fabulous!
Thursday is WEAR YOUR COLLEGE GEAR to school day. It is in recognition of the Academic Blitz that is happening for junior high and high school students. But it's never too soon to support higher education. Plus, Thursday late afternoon and evening, I will be holding conferences.
Have a wonderful evening!
