Lots to catch up on...
Tonight is our skating party night. Morgan is invited to have the entire family roller skate or roller blade tonight at the THE NEW RINK on Van Dyke just south of 23 Mile. It starts at 6:00 and ends at 8:00 an adult must stay with children, this is not a drop off event. There is a charge to skate and an additional fee for rentals. You are welcome to bring skates from home. Your child will be getting a sticker today at the end of the day to bring with them tonight. When they present the sticker at the snack counter, they get a free soda drink. This is a great indoor activity to get moving after so many days of indoor time with those frigid days.
We started Unit 3 in our reading program. New spelling words are coming home today. They all have a long a sound. We talked today about different rules that help us remember the long a sounds in words. These will be tricky. I have spelling practice lesson blocked out this week as usual to help them learn the words and strategies to spell correctly.
The weekly reading is loaded with science this week as well. We will explore forces from magnets, pushing and pulling, gravity, and weight. This will be fun for the students.
Our writing trait this week is all about organization. Putting sentences in order and having them make sense. Writing will be a huge part of our day this next marking period. And for the remainder of the year.
Chapter 5 in math is all about double digit numbers and subtraction. We will build vocabulary and different strategies to help the students understand how to complete subtraction sentences.
LUNCH BUNCH BOOK CLUB is back! Just before the break our Cocoa book arrived. Hopefully everyone has had a chance to read it. We will meet this Wednesday for lunch and to talk about the authors purpose, what we liked about the story, and do some comparing if they saw the movie too.
Have a wonderful night.
