I hope you had a chance to play outside yesterday with that great fresh snow. It seems like we will be getting a little more tonight and over the weekend.
On Wednesday, Gavin lost a tooth! Very exciting for everyone to see smiling faces missing some teeth.

We wrote letters to Santa and mailed them off to The North Pole. We are hoping that Santa and his elves can find some time to write us back before we leave on the 22nd. You can see their letters in our photo tab. Some students asked for some items they hope Santa can bring to them. But the purpose was really to practice our friendly letter writing skills and have some conversation with Santa. They are very sweet and they were very excited to do this. Even those who may have already written to Santa, they found other things to talk about in their letter.
A reminder that next week on Thursday, we will celebrate the season with Reindeer games and crafts. The students will be rotating between first and second grade rooms. In addition to that, I will be doing some other simple gift giving things in the classroom. I will express that this time of year is so exciting but we need to remember to give to others and not just receive. I've asked for a $5.00 donation to help cover some of the costs for these activities. Thank you.
I was going to give the kids a spelling review test today, but with losing some time yesterday, we voted on skipping it this week! I may do some review and holiday words next week, but do not look for new spelling words until after we return from the break.
We completed our Unit 2 reading theme test today. The students worked hard to follow along as we modeled this assessment. For Unit 3, it will be done on the computer, so you will not see that test come home. The last part of the test was a writing piece. You will see in their packet that we brainstormed ideas to follow the instructions. Then, they used a graphic organizer to explain the details. Finally, they put that on lined paper to create a paragraph. Once I evaluate the writing, I will send it home for you to see their development.
See the pictures below for a sample.
Have a great weekend!
