New spelling words are coming home today. This week are tough words. The concept is not difficult, soft c and soft g sounds. However, looking at the combinations of vowels and consonants, these words may be tricky for some students.
We will working with money this week. I'll be showing the connection of understanding place value and how there are different combinations of coins that show the same amount of value. This is something you can do at home as well! Put out a variety of coins. First, make sure they know the different ways to identify the coins and what value they hold. Then, if you ask them to show you 15 cents, two different ways, you may get 15 pennies, or one dime and one nickel, or they may show you two nickels and five pennies, etc. This is an important second grade skill to master. Your help at home is appreciated. Thank you!
I'm looking forward to seeing you this week. I will be able to show you your child's report card while you are here. All digital cards will be sent home on Friday. Our fifteen minutes together goes by very quickly. Please do not be upset when I set a timer. I just don't want to go over and mess up another conference window for those who have siblings. If we need to schedule more time together, we most certainly can.
We welcomed our new student today. Once I have his parents permission, I will post a photo of his smiling face and announce his name. But, I can tell you that he said he had a good first day. And, your children welcomed him beautifully!
Enjoy the evening, and be safe tomorrow if the weatherman is right. They are saying we may have a wet, slushy drive in the morning.
