The Week Flew

It's hard to believe that it is Friday!  This week went by so quickly.  I think having professional development on Tuesday really threw us off.

It was a good week.  Lots of new things were introduced this week.  We looked more closely at proper nouns, prefix meanings, suffix meanings, place value, and money.

Speaking of money...The PTO is doing a friendly MSU vs UofM coin wars next week.  But before the children add their coins in our classroom, I'm asking that you send in an array of coins on Monday.  We will use the real money to learn more about what they look like, feel like, how we can exchange them, make change, and add them together.  The best way to learn to count and subtract money is to actually use the real thing.  Then by the end of the week, the coins can be put into our boxes for the fun of the competition.  Thank you so much for helping with both of these!

This week we practiced a severe weather drill.  Our class did so well.  I was very proud of them.

Be sure to ask your child about how we became scientists this morning and explored how to identify frogs and toads just by listening.  This was more challenging than they thought it would be, but what great practice it was on listening skills!

The children have been earning Excellence Dollars in a different way.  The first marking period, they were falling into our expectations and routines.  I paid them every day for being ready to learn.  This marking period, they will get paid individually throughout the day when they complete work while paying attention to details, doing what is asked of them without reminders, walking in the hallway quietly and with their hands to themselves, when we receive a compliment from others we can earn some cash too!  I've also added to the reward choices.  For those who want that instant reward, they can continue to earn $10 and go to the Treasure Box.  For those who want to save a little more, I now am offering $20 coupons.  Those might be eating lunch with me, reading to the class, picking a treat, wearing slippers, etc.  The children were very excited to see some of the choices.

We did change seats today since November started.  I allowed the children to pick their seats.  However, if I see a need to move them, I will.  But it's always fun to be able to sit near a special person.

I'm looking forward to talking with you at our brief conference next week.  Please note that I will be setting a timer to be respectful to everyone and other teachers who may be needing to keep on time as well.  If for some reason, you are late to our start, we can always reschedule to have more time together.  Thank you in advance for understanding.

Have a great weekend!
