A word to talk about with your child today is RHYME. We looked at several poems today and found rhythm to help us read it more fluently. Then we slowed down to find the words that rhyme. This is a challenging skill for several children to master. They want to only see word family rhymes like cat, sat, hat, etc. However, in second grade it is time to really understand what rhyming is by understanding that it is the sounds at the end of words that are the same that make them rhyme. For example: box and rocks. They do not look alike, but they do sound alike and that is what makes them rhyme.
We did an adorable turtle poem today. Ask your child if they remember the motions. Ask them if they remember changing the rhythm from fast to slow and how silly it sounded each time! They had a blast with that! Take a look at just one example of how they needed to highlight the rhyming words then illustrate the poem.

We had a couple of friends lose a tooth too! This is always very exciting. Please do remind your child that putting their hands in their mouth may make them ill. I'm starting to hear of some stomach aches hitting our school. It would be nice if it doesn't come to room 23!
Check out our Flat Stanley album. Another one came in today from Florida. Stanley had a chance to visit Walt Disney World! Ashley reminded us today that it is Walt Disney's birthday! What perfect timing.
Have a wonderful evening!
