Our day was filled with lots of learning!
Our Write and Tells are being enjoyed by all the students. They are very proud to share what they are writing. We are hearing about families, traditions, fun memories, some video gaming, and make-believe stories. Keep up the great work. Just a note to parents, please do help your child edit their work. This is a process that is of great value. Especially when they need to do writing alone without our support.
During our meeting this morning we read an expository text about drums. They were so excited to learn about that instrument. I suggested that they bring in a hollow item and we will explore some science on Friday. I will bring in some materials and have the kids try to make a drum. So if you see your child putting a paper towel tube or toilet paper tube in their backpack, it is for Friday! Some may find a small box to try to make a drum with that. It should be fun for them to do build a drum through some trial and error.
I introduced speed math today to the children. They set a goal and I'm sure it will be successful. If anything comes up, I may adjust the final date. Let's see how they do! Five minutes was way too long for these smarties! Tomorrow, I will give them three minutes.
We enjoyed a jumprope assembly this afternoon. A group of students from Beck Elementary are in a jumprope club. They practice lots of tricks and then visit other schools to share the joy. Benny had a chance to try some jumping with them today.
Please don't forget, next Wednesday is Valentine's Day. Your child can bring in cards to pass out to the entire class. Please make a mailbox to collect the treasures in. It can be made of a shoe box, paper bag, large envelope, etc.
Have a wonderful evening.
